Lloyd’s of London is warning of potential problems with aircraft communication and navigational systems; malfunctioning satellites and GPS systems; and the potential shutdown of power grids, over the next few years, on account of an “increasingly turbulent” space weather forecast.
Space weather is a term used to describe various disturbances that occur in near-Earth space, and an expected increase in solar activity may have a considerable impact on businesses, according to Lloyd’s latest 360 Risk Insight report.
Solar winds, coronal mass ejections, solar radiation storms, magnetic storms and solar radio bursts all have the potential to disrupt modern technologies and the report suggests that space weather forecasts should be of increasing interest to businesses generally.

Uninsured drivers are rife on roads in the UK, according to a study conducted by moneysupermarket.com.
Research by the comparison site revealed that one in six (15 per cent) motorists have broken the law by getting behind the wheel of a car they weren’t insured to drive. Four per cent have confessed to breaking the law by driving their own car uninsured, while nearly one in ten (nine per cent) have admitted to driving someone else’s car without insurance .
Of those who admitted to driving without car insurance, a staggering 36 per cent said it was because they didn’t know they needed insurance when behind the wheel. Full post…
